"I'm alright. Really," Biff said. "It just caught me off guard. That's all."
"Well, as long as you're okay. I can't let my friends get hurt," Leonard said. But when he walked away, he had to wonder ... were he and Biff friends? After all, they didn't have much in common. Already, the memory of them walking to school together was fading from his mind. He still remembered Biff eating pancakes at his house, though. Just the thought of his mom making all that unhealthy food, and for a sort of slob like Biff, kind of made Leonard sick. He knew his mom could make pancakes, but why did she have to make so much?

"Are you okay?" asked Lilly, looking over at Zoe.
"Yeah, I just feel a little dizzy for some reason." She grabbed her head, feeling fortunate that she was stopped at a traffic light. If she had been driving ...
Suddenly, the dizziness subsided. She turned and smiled at the 12-year old girl in the passenger seat.
"Zoe? What is it?" Lilly asked, wondering why she was in a better mood all of a sudden.
But Lilly's question made her frown. "Zoe? Have you forgotten my name already? It's Zendaya. I know that's kind of an uncommon name around here, but it's what my biological parents named me.
"Oh, sorry." Though, Lilly could have sworn that the black girl said that her name was Zoe, not Zendaya. But, maybe Lilly wasn't really paying attention.
Moments later, Zendaya parked the car in front of Chesapeake Middle School. "Okay, here we are. I told the principal that I would escort you in. I need to see my brother anyway." In her haste to get to school, she had accidentally taken the school note meant for Mikey with her. (Her mom had written two notes earlier. One for Zendaya and one for Mikey, knowing that they were both late for school.)
