The elevator doors closed with a ding.
"I'm telling you, man. That stuff happens. It's real!" Ryan told his friend Steve as they rode up to their office floor.
"You're too gullible. That stuff's all urban legends. UFOs, Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster. Maybe those are all caused by 'The Randoms' too, huh?"
"Maybe, who knows! Lots of it is documented!"
"Sure, by tabloids," Steve said dismissively.
"It's freaky stuff though. You hear about the two roommates in Poland? One guy turns into a plate of spaghetti and the other guy eats him for lunch, as though he cooked it himself! They were back to normal arguing about it an hour later. Or the retired couple in Florida where their condo turned into the apartment from "Friends" and they acted out an entire episode as if they were the characters in real life! They say they're back to normal but the old guy is still convinced his name is Rachel."
"Dude, that doesn't even make sense. That breaks like every law of physics and reality."
"Well scientists are trying to figure it out. There's a lot of research going on!"
"By quacks, I'm sure." The elevator dinged again as they reached their floor. "Come on, Mr. Edwards is gonna get hotheaded again if we don't file enough reports today."
Ryan sighed, "Yeah. Man, how did we get roped into working in such a boring place?"
"Just lucky I guess," Steve said with a chuckle. As they walked into the drab office full of cubicles, he heard what seemed to be a faint crackling sound behind him. Like static electricity but louder. He turned to look, but there was nothing there.
