it, well, just happened.
If you wish for something, the stone changes reality so there's a reason things are that way.
But sometimes the reason is trivial. For instance, if you wish to teleport somewhere, that doesn't mean the stone makes it so you were always there. The stone just zaps you there. The change in reality is that you were suddenly zapped for no particular reason except that, well, you wished for it.
And that's what happened here. Which meant that Jon was suddenly accompanied by a girl version of himself who thought of herself as his girlfriend, who had been zapped into existence earlier that day.
He'd have to explain it to everyone he knew. His parents, his classmates....
As he left the classroom, Jonnie approached him.
Jon wasn't sure how to act. "Er, where did you go to?" he asked. "You went into the classroom but I didn't see you there."
"Oh, I'm so glad to see you again, Jon," she said. Jon thought the voice was odd. Sort of how his own voice sounded on recordings, but higher pitched. "I missed you. I went into your classroom by habit and people looked at me strangely, so I had to sneak out through the side door."
"I can't imagine why," said Jon.
"You know," said Jonnie, "we'll have to explain this to everyone we know, somehow," said Jonnie. "Our parents, our classmates, the teachers..."
"That's just what I was thinking," said Jon.
"Of course," said Jonnie. "I know you like you do yourself. We need to make a wish to fix this."
"Yeah, a wish," said Jon. "And be real careful about it."
"You have to wish that you can tell people who I am. You have to know when the wish takes effect."
"That's right," said Jon. "I was thinking along those lines. Let me see... I wish that when I tell people Jonnie was created by magic, they will believe me and think it's perfectly ordinary, and that when I get this ability an ice cream cone would appear in my hand."
Nothing seemed to happen, of course. Jonnie had to hide for the rest of the day. But as soon as classes were over, Jonnie was waiting outside the school for Jon. "Come on," said Jonnie. "Let's walk home together."
Jon wasn't sure what to do. Did he really want to encourage this person to be his girlfriend? But it couldn't hurt... and it's not as if she was unattractive .... "Sure, Jonnie," he said.
Ten minutes later Jon suddenly found himself holding a chocolate mint ice cream cone.
"It looks like it worked!" said Jon.
Jon waited for his mother to get home... while Jonnie sat next to him, leaning on his shoulder.
"Hello," said his mother's voice from outside, as she unlocked the door.
She gaped at Jon's female double when she saw her, but soon dismissed the strange resemblance to her son. "Is this a friend of yours?" she asked.
"No, Mom. She's a girl version of me who was created by magic today, and she's my girlfriend." Jon hoped he hadn't overlooked something in that wish.
"Oh," said his mother as the wish took effect. All confusion left her face. "That's nice."
"Can she stay with us for a while? Since she didn't exist yesterday, she doesn't have a place to stay."
"Sure," said his mother. "You can get out that old cot and put it in your room, but you are going to sleep in separate beds."
