Jon knew that her name was Veronica and that she worked in New York, while Ken (Karyn) was in Los Angeles, working his own small business.
"This won't be fun unless we're together, so I wish that Karyn's new life was as the same person, but his life was in New York, and his apartment was near mine."
Just then, his boss came in and said, "You're free to go; your shift's up."

He went home to see Karyn, or Ken.
