"Good morning, Sarah!" Athena said brightly.
I finished rubbing my eyes and looked at Sarah. "Hey, Sarah. How's it going?"
Sarah shrugged. "Not too bad." She gave us a vague smile and kept walking. I wasn't too sorry to see her go. While Sarah never gave us any trouble, she could be quite the bitch to other girls my age.
Athena and I were quite lucky in that regard. Sarah and other bullies like her preyed on anyone who looked different, acted different, or did anything to stick out from the crowd. But Athena and I were as ordinary as two high school girls could be. As far back as I could remember, we had always gotten along with the in-crowd, never doing anything that would draw a bully's attention to us. Inwardly, I felt sorry for the geeks, the goths, the poor kids who couldn't afford nice clothes. But there wasn't much someone like me could do to fix that.
"Want to head inside?" Athena asked with a smile.
I smiled back. "Let's go."
