Linda waved goodbye to the girl she'd just met. Any memory of her son's best friend she used to have was swiftly wiped clean from her memory.
“She comes on a bit...strong” Eve muttered after Cara left while looking through the gym door. “But well, here's the gym. Looks like they let out a bit early, actually. I don't see Madison yet, but me and Deidre have to get to class. You gonna be okay by yourself?”
“Oh, sure. I'm just gonna freshen up in the restroom...” With that, Linda walked into the same women's room that Cara had just exited from, and took a deep breath.
“Okay, Linda, get it together,” she said to herself. “I'm trapped in a school that's turning boys into girls and girls into different girls. And somehow it's changing me too.” She looked in the mirror at her light mocha skin. She was changing race, like Eve had. She had to remember who she was.
“My name is Linda Madison,” she said to herself in the mirror. I'm a 32 year old Caucasian woman. My parents were born in the United States. I was born in the United States, and I've lived here all my life. I have two kids, Zoe and Mikey Madison. As long as I can remember that, I can find a way to get myself, and them, out of this place.”
Confident in her memory at the moment, Linda took another look at the face that she hoped wouldn't become too familiar. She didn't realize, however, that just an hour ago she knew for a fact she was 38 years old. Nor did she notice that she completely left out one of her three children.
But in such transformative times, she could be forgiven for forgetting about Jon Madison, as by this point, he'd been fully assimilated into Madison Jones.
