"We planned to hang out at my place, right?" Sarah said. I almost couldn't believe what she was saying. I'd never been. I remembered Sarah as this preppy cheerleader, not someone like me.
"Sure!" I mustered.
Karyn and I followed her back to her car, which instead of the pink convertible I was used to seeing in the parking lot had turned a deep shade of black to match. I sat up front, with Athena and Zelda in the back. I couldn't help but gawk at her. Sarah was a pretty girl before the wish, but she was a different sort of gorgeous now. Mine.
"Uh, what about Karyn?" I asked, noticing that there was no room in the car for her to sit.
"Goths only," Athena said, from the back seat.
"Sorry," Sarah said. “There's not enough room in my car anyway.”
I was disappointed about that, but it was clear that Sarah was friends with Karyn, to some degree, even though she wasn't a Goth. So she couldn't hang out with her this time. That didn’t mean that they couldn't hang out in the future, right?
"Sorry, Karyn. Maybe we could do something some other time," I told her.
She shrugged, then said "Okay, fine. But promise me you'll fill me in on how things are now … you know, with Sarah and everything," she added in a whisper.
I nodded, then Sarah started up the car and we were off.
"What was that all about?" Sarah asked, probably hearing her name mentioned.
"I’ll tell you later," I said, not certain whether or not I would. Sure, Sarah was more like me now. But despite how much better looking she was, and the fact that she was now part of the Goth crowd, she was still Sarah McMillan. I had a feeling that telling her about the magical cat figure might be a mistake.

Sometime later, I found myself in awe, looking at Sarah's mansion (and it really was a mansion, as her family was one of the richest in town), as the car pulled up the driveway. Sarah noticed my reaction and found it to be strange. After all, this wasn't the first time I had been there. Or so she thought.
