I was rather surprised when Karen whipped her arm forward, saluting me, "Sir, yes sir." she replied. I couldn't hear the sarcasm I had expected in the statement, but chalked it up to her general irritation with me. I turned my attention back to my bedstand in an effort to find the stone while Karen had decided to get back to looking.
About five minutes passed when I began to feel a pressure building in my chest, "Karen. The vacumn, quick." I held out my hand and moved to her. She quickly scooped up the abandoned hand vac and flicked it on while I stuffed it into my shirt. Sure enough, I felt the pressure releasing and watched the vacumn pull the pink smoke in to its container, "Nice job." I thanked her, switching the vacumn back off to save power.
She nodded, "Thanks," she replied, setting it down, "That's going to be a problem soon." she continued, "I mean, there's only so much space in there. And when it gets full..."
"One thing at a time, Karen. Let's get back to finding the stone."
She nodded, setting the hand vac aside and got back down on her hands and knees.
"What stone, Jon?" Zoe's voice came from my door, "and what are you doing with this vacumn? Why'd you stick it in your shirt?" she continued.
I looked to my doorway. There stood Zoe and Sarah, both of them in tights and their cheerleading outfits, "Nothing," I covered, "A school project that we're working on."
"Which one is that?" Sarah asked, "I don't remember any rocks or vacumns being assigned." she took up the hand vac.
"Be careful with that!" I exclaimed, not sure exactly what I was intending to do. All it would do is draw attention to the lie...
