Janice entered Linda's room. Linda was fiddling with the laptop, a set of headphones hooked into an iPod in her ears. Janice called out her name several times before pulling the headphones out of her ears.
"Why'd you do that?" She yelped.
"Because you didn't hear me," Janice said. "What are you listening to so loud I can hear it even when you wear the headphones?" She put one close, but not inside her ear. She clearly didn't like it. "I thought we could have dinner together. I cleared it with the nurse. We haven't been spending much time together here."
"I'm kind of busy," Linda told her, not wanting to have dinner with her.
"With what? The Internet? Your music player?" Janice said. "Well, we're having dinner. That's the end of it."
"Oh...okay," Linda replied, defeated. She moved to the conference room where they had their sessions and the two sat with hospital trays while Janice asked her questions and talked...or tried to, and Linda mostly responded with as few words as possible.
It frustrated Janice to no end. During her morning session with Rebecca, she began to pace back and forth, not even trying her tea. "She barely seems to do anything. She avoids her sessions, she hides on that computer, she won't talk to me..it is like we're strangers."
Rebecca smiled inwardly. According to plan.
