Jon and Jordan rested their back against the wall and slumped to the ground. Both were breathing heavily, partly due to nerves and partly due to the tiring effort it to took just to walk those few uncoordinated steps to the door.
Jon looked toward the other half, not very happily. "Well, that couldn't possibly have gone any worse."
Joran glared back. "Its not my fault. Your the one who was picking up the pace and made us trip."
"What? No your foot caught mine!"
"It did not! Your... never mind. This is pointless arguing who tripped who." Jordan finally proclaimed. "We both messed up. We were both nervous."
Jon let out a sigh and looked away. "Yeah your right." Jon turned back, biting on the side of his lip. "Sorry dude. I'm just really not liking this day so far."
"Me neither. But we'll get through it." Jordan said with a half smile. He made fist with his thumb sticking out and hovered it just infront of their chest. Jon responded by making the same sign and pressing his first and thumb against Jordan's. It was a little ritual thing they had started doing since their punishment. It was like saying 'everything was fine,' or 'we're still okay.'
"Alright, let's get going. Our butt is starting to fall asleep on the tile." Jon brought his hand back and pressed it against the floor to help lift them up; Jordan did the same. Back to a coordinated system they jumped to their feet and started walking to the school office.
They walked through the open door, and stopped right infront of the front desk. The man there was busy typing away, and didn't notice them come in. "Excuse me" Jordan asked calmly. "My... uh... friend and I need to get our altered class schedules."
"Just a moment." He responded without looking up. When he was finished with whatever he was doing, the receptionist looked up to the joined boys. Sometimes it did pay to be joined. The look he gave them was priceless. His mouth hung wide open in a stupid fashion, but both boys managed to suppress their giggles. "Uh... um-uh...its... you two. Um... we have it... ready for you now." He fumbled around through his stacks of paper. Obviously Jordan's mom didn't quite specify Jon and Jordan's condition, only that they needed to be in all of the same classes. He eventually found the paper, and shakily handed it to them.
Jon grabbed it from her and politely thanked her. They managed to keep straight faces all the way until they were out of the office. Jon laughed, "Okay, that makes up for earlier."
"Yeah, I know. Did you see her face?" Jordan tried to imitate it, and pretty successfully.
"Yeah, it was hilarious." Jon responded. The boy continued laughing as they strolled down the hallway.
