Although Jonatha had gotten a lift from hys friend Biffany, school wasn’t really that far away, especially since Dad and Mom had moved into a nicer part of town that was closer to the school, so I just walked to school every day.
For Nathen, it was a different story. Shi lived in an apartment block downtown and so either had to catch the school bus or a taxi to get to school so I waited for hir by the school gates.
“Hey, Nath!” I shouted as shi hopped off the bus. Shi looked over in my direction and smiled. Shi was wearing the same Chicago Fire jersey from yesterday but shi had paired it with a pair of shorts. It was rather warm outside.
“Hey, Zane-gurl! How’s it going?” shi asked me as shi got closer. I shrugged my shoulders.
“Fine, anything new to report?” I asked, referring to our text conversation this morning. Nathen shook hir head.
We had a bit of time to ourselves before classes started, so we headed to our lockers as Nathen immediately asked about the stone.
“So, is it...you know...still at home?” I nodded and Nathen drooped hir shoulders a bit. “Oh, I mean, it’s probably a good idea that you didn’t bring it because like you said, we need to set up some ground rules first.”
I nodded.
“But it would have been fun to be able to use it this morning,” Nathen added.
Shi did have a point. Admittedly, I was eager to use it. I just didn’t want to make any accidental wishes when we did.
We started bouncing ideas back and forth as we reached our lockers and Nathen actually came up with the idea that we could try and experiment with a sort of time limit. Something that meant that the wishes wouldn’t be permanent.
I nodded as I grabbed my books for my first class.
“Alright, Nath, that actually sounds like a good idea. How about this? We both spend the day coming up with wishes that we could try and then use the stone this afternoon.”
It sounded like a plan and I could see that Nathen was eager to use the stone. Shi looked like shi was already in deep thought about what shi wanted to wish for.
