Zoey walked down the stairs, everything feeling different between her girly clothes and the fact that everything seemed a bit bigger at her new height. As she made her way down, she saw that she was the last one to come downstairs.
"Hey honey," an adult girl replied. Is she my mother? My father? Zoey could tell that she was male, thanks to the presence of a bit of a bulge between her legs, even though her outfit was kind of frilly. "How was your day?" Male she may have been, but that voice was unmistakably a girl's.
"Sorta interesting," Zoey replied. Interesting? Yeah, right.
"Well, Mom will wanna hear about it. He always likes hearing about your days." Oh... It suddenly clicked for Zoey. Of course "he" is my mother. He's female.
Zoey turned her gaze to her siblings. Jon, the female known as Zoe before the wish, was taller, with a squarer face, but the same black-clad appearance that she knew from the old world. But Mikayla was clearly several years older than Mikey. As they sat down to grilled chicken and roasted potatoes, everyone talked about their days. Zoey learned that Mikayla was a freshgirl in high school, having gained five years in age on Mikey. Jon was goth as ever and didn't have much to say besides muttering a couple of expletives.
"And you, Zoey?" It was her mom Larry, who had Jon's mother's face, but more angular. Gosh, that's so weird. "Anything exciting on the cheer squad?" he prompted after a few seconds of silence.
Zoey couldn't show it, but she was immediately startled. Cheerleading!? Oh dear. "Uh, not today, we didn't have practice."
That answer satisfied Dad. "Sometimes it's good to have a day off," she replied.
"Seems like everybody had unexciting days today," Mom interjected. Huh, normally he's more talkative, I guess.
For this world's Zoey, from the outside looking in, maybe that was true. But not from the inside looking out. Zoey ate quickly, interested to return to her room and find out what happened to her classmates.
