Jon looked at the list for a long time before finally deciding which option to pick. He reached up and touched the option labeled SCIENTIST.
In the blink of an eye, the holographic display disappeared, then a moment later, the darkness of the room was consumed by light.
He found himself standing in the middle of a laboratory. Looking around the room, he saw men and women in white lab coats and at both exits, a pair of soldiers holding rifles. This must have been some sort of government lab. Jon smiled. This was definitely something right out of a sci-fi movie. He was willing to bet that these scientists (and him) were going to be some of the first people to take on the alien threat. Assuming, of course, that this game had some sort of alien invasion storyline.
"It's ready," a man said. Jon turned and saw a gray-haired man walking to the center of the room, holding some sort of device. He put it down on a table, then reached down towards it. "I'm about to turn it on."
The other scientists all nodded.
The man then activated it, causing it to light up like a Christmas tree. And immediately afterward, the man dropped his head and slumped. He looked like he was asleep, but still standing.
"Look," one of the woman scientists said. "They're all asleep. All the men are asleep."
Jon looked around. She was right. Three of the soldiers were men and only those three were asleep. The female soldier was still awake and alert. And all the male scientists were asleep too.
But ... wait a minute! If all the men were asleep, how come Jon wasn't too?
For the first time since appearing in the laboratory, he looked down at himself. And that was when he got a shock.
