Of its own accord, Jon's hand selected an application called "Alien Apocalypse". Its icon was of a gray alien head, like the ones belonging to the aliens that supposedly crashed at Roswell. Jon was certain he had installed nothing like it, but being a sci-fi fan, he certainly could imagine wanting something like this, even though he wasn't quite sure what it was about. He double-clicked it.
Without warning, everything around him went black. He wasn't unconscious and it didn't just suddenly become night. No, this was something else.
He stood up from the chair, after he realized that he was no longer stuck to it, then walked around the room. But there was something wrong. The room seemed bigger than it should have been and ... where did all of his furniture go? He felt around but only felt empty space. He walked back to the chair, but discovered that even that was gone too. He was obviously somewhere else, but where?
"Hello?" he asked aloud. At first, there was no answer, but then a bright holographic display appeared just ten feet away. It hung in the air, as if on a string. Jon walked towards it and read the text displayed on it:
WELCOME TO ALIEN APOCALYPSE
This must have been some sort of virtual reality environment. It was like something out of one of his favorite sci-fi movies. Surely without the wishing stone, something like this couldn't exist.
He reached up and touched the holographic display, causing the text to change. Now the text said:
CHOOSE YOUR POSITION
Then it gave a bunch of options underneath:
ALIEN
CIVILIAN
SCIENTIST
SOLDIER
They must have been characters within the game. Characters that had a unique perspective on the storyline.
Jon looked at the list for a long time before finally deciding which option to pick. He reached up and touched the option labeled ...
