Hammer dressed quickly before sneaking through the hall into Paul's bedroom. It sounded like the idiot was downstairs, snatching the ring would be a quick in-and-out of the room.
When she got inside, she silently cursed. The ring wasn't there. Paul must have hidden it, or--even worse--had it on his person. Still, a quick search seemed to be worth it.
The drawers seemed to be the obvious hiding place. Hammer stopped to think for a moment, and chose one of the top ones. He's tall and it's his underwear drawer, so his girlfriend would probably stay away from it. After a few moments of digging around, Hammer was rewarded with a tiny box. She opened it to see the same diamond ring she'd spotted last night. Hammer smirked. Too easy.
Hammer stopped for a moment, examining the ring for--she didn't know. She was already experienced enough t o know how much she could get for it, why was it drawing her eye so unnaturally? She snapped out of it and slipped the ring into her pocket, carefully replacing everything else.
She started to leave, but the door suddenly opened to reveal Paul. "Sarah? What are you doing here?"
Damnit. Is this woman genetically much stupider than me or something? I swear I'm suddenly a lot less sharp. That's what Hammer thought, anyway. what she said to Paul was--
