Hammer paused for a moment. Disappearing wouldn't be so hard if she had that magical medallion, now, would it? After a moment's consideration, she edited her list. When she had finished, it looked something like this:
- Grab money, prep to disappear. Ring seen in boyfriend's room can prob. be pawned, along with computer
- Recover medallion from police station (did they get it?)
- leave the idiot (make way to Florida safehouse)
- get new body?
Hammer's fingers hovered over the keys. She looked at the last item, get a new body and a plan began to form. The medallion supposedly had some other functions that he hadn't personally used in his body-hopping crime spree. Most of them, if Hammer recalled the instructions correctly, involved clothing. Instead of swapping bodies, he could duplicate one, or--if the item was new--alter his body to suit it.
Hammer thought of the detective who had almost figured it out. What was his name? Alan? Arne? I should probably have paid more attention to him, considering he almost caught me. Restarting the crime spree with Sarah DeVrie's body would surely attract his attention again. And one of the few enemies willing to seriously pursue magical criminals is one I would rather avoid. Perhaps it would be better to create a new identity instead of the continuing the (relatively) conspicuous chain of body swaps.
Still, stealing the ring got top billing. It should only take a few minutes, and Hammer found it hard to resist such a low-hanging fruit. In fact, she could probably do it now and then immediately try to get the medallion from the police station.
