After roughly six minutes of staring at herself in the mirror, "Sarah" decided to go through with what had been her standard procedure every time she took a new body. She searched the room for paper or something to write on, but came up empty-handed. Ah, well. A computer, then. That would work.
Sarah DeVries' laptop was in a stylish lavender bag which had been propped up against the foot of her bed the previous night. The casing of the computer itself was about the same shade. Lavender, thought the person who had once been Kurt Hammer. Might be her favorite color. Keep track of that. While Hammer did not intend to stick around Paul Jackson that long--maybe just enough to squeeze a little money out of him and then disappear--she didn't want to tip him off that something was up with his "girlfriend." And, as previous experience had taught her, acting like someone in the more subtle ways tended to make people overlook your big mistakes.
Having not studied the original Sarah's life long enough to guess at her password, Hammer had to gamble that logging onto the computer as a guest would work. He'd try less direct methods of figuring out her passwords later, which would probably involve answering those pathetically obvious security questions that people seemed so eager to use.
There. Microsoft Word. Hammer clicked the "list" button and began typing up, in order, what her priorities were. Thoughts flitted across her mind as the unfamiliar fingers tapped lightly on the keyboard. Identity. She might want to look up more on the body she now inhabited. Hiding, making sure that the police didn't know who she was. Escaping. She had no intention of consummating her relationship with Paul or--if she was right about the poorly hidden ring she'd glimpsed in his room last night--marrying him. She wanted to leave, or disappear.
Hammer paused for a moment. Disappearing wouldn't be so hard if he had that magical medallion, now, would it? After a moment's consideration, she edited her list. When she had finished, it looked something like this:
