Miraculously, there really wasn't anyone watching, or anyone in the shower. In fact, there wasn't anyone in the house; even Zoe must have gone out for some reason.
Jonnie entered the bathroom after Jon and was going to lock the door, but Jon had had his hand on the door at the time and locked it first. Instead, Jonnie turned on the shower and adjusted the water.
She knew Jon like she knew herself and thought it was unlikely that he could complain about the temperature or flow of the water, but decided to ask him anyway. "Jon, try this, okay?"
Jon felt the water and said "It's fine."
The shower was brief. Jonnie couldn't get over how strange it felt, though, to be in the shower with someone else, especially someone with such a familiar body.
"Er, need any help?" said Jon. "Scrubbing your back or something?" Jonnie thought Jon was feeling as awkward about this as she was. "Sure," she replied. "I understand... we never did this before and it feels really strange. It's just as strange for me, Jon. We've got to learn how to live with there being two of us."
Afterwards they helped each other dry off. Jon lingered on Jonnie's hips, enough for her to notice. "Um, Jon?" she said.
"Yes, dear?"
"Nothing," she said. "Except I know you don't talk to girls that way all the time."
"Can't blame me for trying," said Jon. "Go ahead, call me anything you want."
She couldn't think of much except "dear". "I don't know. Jon, sweetie? Lover?"
"We'd better not do that one," said Jon. "People will say things."
"Yeah," she replied. "Even 'dear' or 'sweetie' will lead to some questions unless we say we're boyfriend and girlfriend."
"What's wrong with that?"
"I'm you. I'm not really a girl in the same way Karyn is. So I can't be a girlfriend."
"You seemed to be a girl back in bed, Jonnie."
"That was different! We made it so I'd be that way. I'm not a girl in other ways." She looked down at her breasts. "Okay, maybe some other ways... I'll think about it."
Jonnie started putting on items of clothing. At one point she picked up the bra. After closing a clasp, she explained, "Jon, this is a lot easier than I thought. I guess you don't have to come up behind me helping me put it. And I guess there won't be any excuse for me to jiggle at you and you to fondle my breasts."
"Hey, I never said anything about that!" replied Jon, putting on his own clothes.
"But you thought it." Jonnie put on her (or rather, Jon's) old shorts; nobody would see them. Then the jeans. They were tight around the hips because Jonnie wasn't proportioned like Jon, but they went on without a real problem. "Why would you think that a scene like that would happen when I put on a bra for the first time?"
"Well, yeah, I see your point, but that was 'we', remember?"
"Are you upset that your clone knows you like you do yourself?"
"Maybe a tiny bit, but wasn't that the whole point of having a clone?"
o O o O o O o O o O o O o O o
Jon looked at himself and his new clone in the mirror. One was a teenage boy with short brown hair, green eyes, wearing a T-shirt and jeans. The other one was at first glance just about the same. Identical hair and eyes, identical clothes styles if not exactly the same pieces of clothing. You could tell by her face that she was a girl, but she didn't have makeup or earrings and the hair was far shorter than the norm for one. When side by side with Jon, she had much more in common with Jon's appearance than with some abstract idea of what a girl should look like.
"So, what do we do now?" wondered Jon. "Now there's you and me and we're back to regular life, only with you and me instead of me."
"I think we'd better introduce me to everyone," replied Jonnie. "But we can play our new game Glimmer Gun two players, finally. I bet I can kick your ass in number of kills."
"You can't beat me. It's like trying to beat yourself."
"Maybe not, but we aren't going to know until we try."
Jon and Jonnie played the game. Both did very well, and Jon and his clone had to compliment each other on their playing; in the first match, though, Jon edged out ahead.
"I win!" exclaimed Jon. "See?"
"Maybe you can get beaten by a girl next time."
"Being beaten by a girl clone doesn't count as being beaten by a girl. You're not an average girl."
"Whatever. Let's go again."
But before they could, there was the sound of someone opening the door.
"Here's our chance," said Jonnie.
"To introduce you?"
"Right."
Jon got up, followed by Jonnie a second later. They got to the living room, to see that at the door was....
