Zoe nodded and headed into the kitchen while Jon finished dusting. By the time he had finished and had started putting the duster away, Jon could hear the kettle boiling. So he decided to go and check on his mother.
Mikey had already gone to bed, so Jon crept slowly along the hall until he reached his mother’s bedroom. Opening the door slightly, Jon could see that his mother was fast asleep. Even snoring a little. Satisfied with what he saw, Jon pulled the door shut and headed to his own room to get ready for bed.
He was in the bathroom dressed in his pyjamas and brushing his teeth by the time Zoe came up with the cups of tea. She placed a cup next to him on the counter and smiled. She bade him goodnight before retreating to her room to turn in for the evening. Once he had finished, Jon took a sip of the tea and smiled. It was perfect. He had never had tea before but decided that he should do more often, especially if Zoe was making it. She seemed to know exactly how to make it.
Meanwhile at the McMillans…
Sarah closed her textbook and yawned. It was getting late and she had spent the whole night studying, which was unusual for her. She had even ignored phone calls from her boyfriend and her best friend because she had been so engrossed in her studies. Who knew that Spanish was such an interesting language? Looking at the time, she saw that it was time for bed. So Sarah got changed into her nightie and went downstairs to bid her parents goodnight.
They were in the living room watching the news when Sarah found them. Her father was cuddled up to her mother who had her arm around her husband’s shoulders. Sarah smiled.
“I’m off to bed,” Sarah announced, as she did so, she noticed two empty cups on the coffee table. “Are you finished with those?” She asked. She suddenly felt like she needed to help around the house a bit.
Surprised by the offer, Susan McMillan shook her head. “No need honey, Ada will take care of it.”
“I think that she’s gone to bed,” Sarah commented. It was a little odd. Ada was usually the last to bed, making sure that everything was tidy at the end of the day, but Sarah shrugged it off.
“Oh, well I guess that I will have to talk to her tomorrow about it.” Susan reasoned. Sarah nodded but she picked up the cups and took them to the kitchen to wash up.
