Jon was confused and terrified. He knew exactly what was happening, he was being rescued by the fire department who thought he was an infant, and had no idea that he was a teenage boy trapped in a baby body!
He was taken to a hospital, which is the first time he'd discovered that he was now a she when they started calling him Baby Jane Doe. He... She was poked and prodded for a while and eventually given a clean bill of health.
They apparently looked for her parents, but of course she wasn't missing (though she had a likely older twin out in the world somewhere) but was considered abandoned. After a day or two in the hospital, he was picked up by a young couple who were going to foster parent her for now.
She went home with them, everyone still calling her Jane, which stuck. Jane kept waiting for a rescue by a Siamese cat with a medallion in her mouth, but it never came.
A few months later, she realized that she had been adopted by her foster parents. She was now officially Jane. Months passed.
Years passed.
Jane never forgot who she had been, but now she was a young girl. At her fifth birthday, she resolved that, even if Kate were to return with the medallion, she would refuse it. She had a good life and she felt a good future. Why risk it?
