As much as Karyn was starting to feel better, it could not even begin to compare to how the newly-minted McMillan twins were feeling. It was as though each of them had been missing something their whole lives and had only now found it. They practically skipped through the mall from store to store, falling all over the same tops and dresses in Forever 21, adoring the same perfumes in Sephora, entirely ignoring the Books-a-Million with identical disregard, and giggling uncontrollably the entire time.
It was as they were stumbling out of Spencer's Gifts, hanging off of each other as they each tried to look more grossed out by the rude day planner they'd found than the other, that Kara spotted two particular individuals exiting the Bed Bath and Beyond.
She stopped. "Hold up," Kara guided her sister behind a kiosk and covertly indicated her targets. "Do you see what I see?"
"Is that who I think it is?" A sly smile crept onto Sarah's lips.
Kara nodded slowly, drawing the stone from her purse. "She's trying to move on with her life. Like we didn't even do anything! We can't have that now, can we?"
Sarah squinted between hanging printed tees. "She looks like she's even smiling! I took everything away from her. What does she even have left?"
Kara cleared her throat. "I think you mean that we took everything away from her. But it looks like we missed something. That's her mom with her. I don't have very many clear memories left, but I know that Karyn and her mom have always been close. Sooooo..."
Sarah looked her sister straight in the eye. "So we take that away, too?"
Kara pulled the other girl in for a quick kiss on the cheek. "I love you so much." Then she looked at the stone in her hand. "I wish that Karyn's mom would agree with every suggestion that I or Sarah make to her."
Now it was Sarah's turn to kiss Kara. "You're amazing. Let's see what damage we can do now."
