The two walked into town, finding it mostly empty. A few people out looking at damage, some kids played in puddles, and a lone police car slowly drove along the semi-flooded road, but the place looked like a ghost town. Power was out in some places, and Drew and Kate had to walk almost a half an hour before they finally came to a restaurant that was open. They ducked inside, a bit damp from the light rain, and ordered food.
Both were a bit surprised at their new appetites. Kate wolfed down her burger and fries and quickly ordered a second, while Drew was barely able to finish hers. As Kate moved from her second burger to a slice of pie, the waitress came back one last time.
"I don't remember seeing you two around before," she said as she handed them the bill. "Are you new in town?"
Drew shook her head and answered, as Kate's mouth was filled with cherry pie. "No. We were at the rink when the storm hit and we got stuck. Luckily, we know the owner and he's letting us stay there."
Kate nodded, but the waitress was shocked. "You don't have anywhere to stay? That's terrible!"
"We're fine, really," Drew said quickly.
The waitress shook her head. "No, no. That's crazy! Listen, you two should come stay with me."
Drew was about to protest, but she was cut off. "Really, it's fine! I have kids about your age - and you, miss, look like you need a change of clothes. I'm sure we have something at our home that would fit you. We've got a spare bed and everything. No sense in letting it go to waste when we could help you two out!"
Drew tried desperately to come up with a reason to say no and looked to Kate. He swallowed his pie before answering...
