Jon could fix Mikey with a wish, but he decided to explore this compromise world for a while. He opened a closet door, took out a volume of his family's encyclopedia, and looked up "human anatomy." He brushed dust off the edge of the pages. Wikipedia had long ago made these old print books obsolete. Jon's parents had inherited the encyclopedia set from his late grandfather. It was within the radius of the stone and therefore reflected what the whole world would be like if Jon's wish had affected it.
"I knew it!" said Jon to himself. "Just not the word for it ..." Men impregnated women who gave birth to babies like in the old reality, but male and female babies had what Jon considered to be each other's organs until the "flip" at puberty. In the immediately previous reality, there was no "flip" and people died with the organs they were born with. In this new reality, nearly all men and women had gone through it, but in rare cases, a child would remain "unflipped" and a male would not only be able to give birth but also nurse his baby. "Matt ..." Jon could hear his brother stepping out of his room. "You gotta read this!"
