Tom took the empty seat next to a group of girls in the corner of the classroom with just enough time to see Jody and Jane turn and walk out of the classroom. “okay class now time for todays lesson.” Mr Dalton started. Tom tried to get comfortable in his seat. He looked around at how the girls in the room were sitting. He noticed a mixture of crossed legs and knees together. Tom thought about this for a moment and chose the knees together approach.
As the lesson progressed, he noticed how some of the boys were looking at him. Surely, they must have noticed that he wasn’t a girl by now. Surely, they must have. Tom kept his head down listening to Mr Dalton who told him that he could get a full list of the textbooks that she needed from him at the lesson.
Susan was trying had to concentrate on her teacher after handing her the hastily written note from Miss Lyons. The teacher had to read it twice as it not only explained why Susan had been late to class but also asked the teacher to lookout for Tom if he turned up in the classroom later.
After what seemed like forever to the two siblings the bell rang for the end of class. Susan left the classroom into the hallway and almost walking into Jo on the way. Susan filled her friend in what her morning so far. Jo tried hard not to laugh at the thought of Tom wearing the same uniform that she was. She did promise Susan that she would keep a lookout for him. A boy wearing the girls’ uniform would not be to difficult to spot she thought.
Tom on the other hand had been delayed from leaving Mr Dalton’s classroom by the teacher himself. He passed him the list of textbooks that would be needed for the course. He also wrote Tammy a note explaining to her next teacher as to why she was late. Tom thanked the teacher and tried not to look too annoyed or irritated whenever Mr Dalton referred to him by the name or gender on his new student ID.
