Agatha calmly opened a drawer. "I believe this will be of use to you... it belonged to your grandfather." It appeared to be a compass of some kind. It was made of curious golden letters, with a silver back. It looked very delicate. The end of the needle held a small inset stone upon it.

"Is... is that..." Jon looked at it with surprise.

"A very small piece of the stone," Agatha nodded. "It's a compass, and it can track the stone. You can use this to find it," she smiled as it seemed to be pointing somewhere. But then they noticed something. The compass seemed to glow, as the little stone on it shone. It was brief, but then it faded. "Hm... well, it seems someone made a wish on it."

Jon gulped. "Any... idea what?"

"I'm afraid not." the elderly woman replied. "Not enough to change our basic reality, that's all I can really say." She waved her hand a little over her eyes.

"C-Change our..." Karyn bit her lip. "What do you mean by that?"

"Certain wishes change the nature of reality my dear," explained Agatha. "I have a.. certain awareness of it- as did your grandfather. It.. appears the stone's location is moving." The compass changed direction... circling itself the other way, to the south. " teleportation or portal wish, most likely."The elderly woman nodded knowingly.

"Please," said Jon quickly. The Sphinx girl looked desperate. "Can you tell me... my Grandfather, is he alive? I really want to talk to him." If anyone knew something about what they should do, it would be him.

"You... wouldn't like my answer Jon," said the woman sadly. "Suffice to say he's just... not here, or anywhere.. more then that, I can't say."

Jon looked down at that. It appeared that she was getting far less answers. Still, she had the compass. She attempted to hold it in her paws. "O-Oh!" it slipped.

"Let me hold it Jon," said Karyn without trying to make a big deal of it. She could tell the sphinx girl was trying to be independent but for things like this, a human hand was needed. "Well, let's get walking. I hope it isn't too far."

The Compass continued to point in one direction. North East. They hoped it wouldn't be too far away. There was no way to know of course. After a while, it started to turn- towards a park no less. Jon and Karyn got off, and explored the lush greens even as it turned to sunset. They couldn't find the stone though... the compass was just showing them close to a.. a sphinx statue?

"I don't get it!" said Jon. "It just keeps pointing to the statue."

Karyn wondered closer to it. "I- I think I found it!" the statue was holding the stone! Karyn tried to pry it out. "I- I can't get to it!" She grimaced.

"Jon wasn't going to give up. "Let me try." She crawled up to the statue, using her large paws trying to scrape at the stone. However it was like it was made of diamond. It didn't want to budge! "I... I can't get at it. Maybe we should get some tools?"
"Seems a shame," sighed Karyn. "It looks like a rather nice statue... I'm not sure if we can explain we had to break it to get at it though. Jon, what if someone 'wished' this? Some kind of accident? We can't exactly hurt them..."

"But it's a sphinx-"

"So are you," retorted Karyn. "I don't know what she would have wished for but... how else could the stone get there?"

Jon had to admit, there was a chance. Jon as desperate as she was, didn't want to hurt someone. At least until she could figure out a way to restore them. "Alright... well, we know where the stone is. Maybe we can bring the statue to my house or something..."
