After a few minutes, when David had had a chance to settle down a bit, she heard her mother gently open the door to her room and come in. She sat down on the bed and put a comforting hand on the new bunny-girl's shoulder. "How are you feeling, David?" she asked.

David sniffed, drying her eyes a bit. "Crappy," she said, not bothering to sugar-coat it.

Her mother nodded. "I'm sure. I know this must be pretty overwhelming for you, and I want you to know that I'll do everything I can to help you with this. But honey, I've been thinking about the clothing thing..."

Oh, this was not a conversation that was going anywhere she wanted to go. David tensed up, evidently enough that her mother could notice it. She sighed. "I know, I know," she said. "I understand that it's a sore spot for you, but I really do think that you should try some clothes that are better-suited to your new body. I'm not going to make a rule out of it, honey, but I'd like it if you would try some of the things we got you around the house, at least, even if you're not comfortable wearing them out in public. It could be a chance for you to get used to the idea, and to figure out how you want to dress now that you've changed."

David buried her head in her pillow. "Don't want to wear a bunch of girly stuff!" she snapped, her words muffled.

Her mother sighed. "I understand why you feel that way, David," she said. "But this is one of those times where I have to tell you something as your parent that you don't really want to hear. Honey, you've already lost that fight. It doesn't matter what you're wearing - you can't hide the fact that you're a girl, and certainly not by wearing ill-fitting, uncomfortable clothes to try and look like a boy."

"I never said I was uncomfortable," the bunny-girl muttered.

Her mother chuckled slightly. "Oh, come on, David. I've had breasts since long before you were born, and I know what is and isn't comfortable for them. And it's not even as if it makes you look less like a girl, anyway. Even now, when your body is still in the process of going from girl to young woman, there's no mistaking it - and eventually it's going to be even more evident than that."

She shrugged. "Nobody's asking you to wear frilly pink dresses or anything, honey. Plenty of born women don't go in for that kind of thing - I don't myself. But you're going to be a lot happier in the long run if you learn to accept that you're a girl now and start finding out what kind of girl you want to be than if you go through this trying to pretend that things haven't changed. I can't make you do that, David, and I'm not going to try - but I can tell you that it'll be a lot less stressful for you if you don't put yourself through fighting a battle that you can't possibly win, and a lot more comfortable if you dress with respect to your new body instead of trying to suppress it."
