Most of the things in the box were pretty mundane; pictures of Mikey's grandpa with his family, a few mementos from his time in the military, and some assorted artifacts from his treasure-hunting days that, while interesting and probably valuable, were definitely not magical (or so Mikey assumed from the fact that she'd been allowed to touch them when her grandpa was still alive.) The only thing that she hadn't seen before was a large, leather-bound notebook with a tarnished brass clasp. Written on a label affixed to the cover was the title "NOTES ON REMAINING UNDISCOVERED RELICS."
Score! Even if she couldn't find any other magical items in the boxes of Grandpa's things, maybe this would have some information that could help. Mikey strained with all her might and managed to lift the book out of the box and onto the floor of the attic. She was briefly stuck on unlocking the clasp, since there hadn't been a key in that box, but as it turned out, all she had to do was stick her tiny hand in the keyhole and open it manually. This accomplished, she opened the book and began to read.
Luckily for Mikey, her grandfather's penmanship was fairly neat and easy to read. She skimmed from page to page, since there was no table of contents; presumably, Grandpa just knew where he kept everything. As she leafed through the book, it became apparent that it was a list of dozens of ancient mythical relics and whatever information on them existed. All kinds of items were listed, from magical aircraft piloted by the Hindu gods to occult artifacts associated with Merlin, and many of the entries were accompanied by her grandfather's personal theories or research. There had to be somthing in here that could help change her and Jon back!
Suddenly, Mikey tuned back in to hear her mom calling. She sighed; she desperately wanted to keep reading until she found something, but she'd much rather not be discovered rooting through Grandpa's stuff. She fluttered into the air and turned to go; the book would have to wait for now, but she'd be back. No matter how long it took her or what she had to face along the way, she was going to restore herself and Jon to their old selves.
