After the two new sisters had sat through the rest of the album, Mikey switched on the SNES and began to play Chrono Trigger. Tuning out might not make her problems go away, but it certainly helped her feel better at the moment.
Jon, meanwhile, made some attempts at using her old TRS-80, but it wasn't much use. She could manage the disks just fine, but the keyboard was simply far too large for her tiny body. With both arms stretched out, she could barely push both home keys, which left efficient typing simply out of the question. And anyway, she had to crane her neck at an uncomfortable angle just to see the screen. Maybe she could sell the system on eBay and pick up an IMSAI or some other old CP/M system that she could get a micro-sized terminal for; that ought to satisfy her retrocomputing needs.
Some time later, after Jon had put her ancient computer up for auction, the door to her room opened, and Karyn walked in. "Hey, Jon," she said. "Sorry I took so long, but math isn't my strong suit. Oh," she said, noticing the young harpy-girl sitting on the floor, "do I know you?"
The girl said nothing. "That's Mikey," Jon said, as she flitted over. "She had that happen this morning. Listen, Karyn, about the stone..."
Karyn frantically tried to shush her, but Jon shook her head. "It's all right, Karyn, she knows. But the thing is...she accidentally wished it away."
The cat-girl's eyes went wide. "You mean...it's gone? Gone gone?"
Jon nodded sadly. "I'm afraid we're stuck like this." Tears began to well up in her eyes, and she sank to the bed, burying her tiny head in the comforter. Karyn sat down next to her.
"I...I guess this is a lot harder for you than it is for me," she said. "Ears and a tail I can live with, but I can't imagine what it must be like to be stuck as the opposite sex. But...well, Jon, I'm still your friend no matter what, and I'll do whatever I can to help you and Mikey adjust, okay?"
The tiny fairy-girl lifted her head and forced a smile for her friend, and Karyn grinned a fangy grin back. "We'll get you through this," she said.
