Jennifer and Karyn sat next to each other on the bus as it headed towards their stop. Jennifer was perched on the back of the seat, eagerly awaiting her chance to use the stone to fix her situation. The bus pulled up at their top and they got off. Karyn came along as Jennifer rushed back to her house. She stopped at the door.
"Um, Karyn?" she asked. "Could you get the door for me?"
Karyn turned the knob and pushed the door open. Jennifer flitted inside and was greeted by her mother.
"Hello, dear," she said. "I picked up some new clothes for you today. They're in your room."
Jennifer thanked her mother and flew upstairs, with Karyn close behind. The door to Jennifer's room was open, and she entered. Her pajamas weren't there.
"MOM!" Jennifer yelled at the top of her lungs. It wasn't as loud as she would've liked, but her mother did hear her and came upstairs. "What is it, dear?" she asked.
"Where did you put my pajamas, Mom?" Jennifer asked.
"Oh, those?" her mother laughed. "Well, all your old clothes were much too big, and they were boys' clothes anyway, so I washed them and dropped them off at Goodwill. Why?"
Jennifer sputtered. She couldn't tell her mother about the rock. "Um, I left some of my stuff in the pockets."
Her mother laughed again. "Come now, Jennifer, do you really think I don't check your clothes before I wash them? There wasn't anything important."
"Um, it was a stone. It was something for a school project."
"Really? Oh dear, I didn't notice it. I'm sorry, dear. I guess you'll just have to find another. Or I suppose you could go over to Goodwill and ask them to look for it."
