Waking Up

Jon opened her eyes. Nothing familiar greeted them. All around her, above, below, and to the sides, was some sort of fabric. Directly in front of her she saw a line of light, and she began to crawl toward it. But something on her chest was dragging against the fabric in a way that she'd never experienced before. She looked down. That's when she noticed that she had become a she.
Though she screamed with all her might, the resulting sound wasn't very loud. Indeed, she was going to have to speak up all the time if she wanted people to hear her. She lay there in shock for a minute and then returned to her crawling, dazed.
She finally reached the light, and pulled herself out of the opening. Standing up, she looked around. When she realized that she was standing on her own bed, and that the fabric around her had been her pajama shirt, she almost screamed again. Six inches tall. She was shorter than a pop bottle. Slowly, she made her way to the edge of the bed. She cautiously started to climb down the side, but slipped. She winced. She didn't know whether this would hurt or not, but she expected it would. After a long moment wherein she did not hit the floor, she opened one eye. She was hovering above the ground, wings flittering madly. She looked with awe at them. In the shock over finding herself female, her other change had gone completely unnoticed.
There was a knock on the door. "Jon, honey?" came her mother's voice. "If you don't get up, you're going to miss the bus."
