"What are you talking about? My birthday is still three months away. I'm still seventeen."
The man furrowed his brow and opened up a suit case, pulling out a sheet of paper. He looked at it a moment. "Huh. Would you look at that." The man smiled then and snapped his fingers. Sarah saw a light appear and disappear on the paper. He then turned the paper so Sarah could see her birth certificate, and the date of her birth.
"Happy birthday, darling."
"How did you . . ."
"Magic," he smiled. And then he backed away and let the last panel of the box be placed and nailed in place. And in the darkness, Sarah began to cry.
"I think you know what we need to do, Jon." Karyn said over the phone. "We need to go down there and sign up. See the inner workings of that place."
"I think you're thinking too magically. To save Sarah, we might be able to just track her down. You know, using detective skills."
"I think you're thinking too narrowly, Jon. This could very well go beyond Sarah. We need to find out about this place, and of they are doing something wrong, need to shut them down."
Jon rubbed his face. "Going there and signing up could be tremendously dangerous."
"Jon, we've already made ourselves invulnerable to magic, so there's not going to be a lot of harm. Besides, it might be a little fun."
Karyn strode into the Fantastic Desires building. She felt like a trained spy, save for her heart beating a little harder. She and Jon decided to skip school today, and she was to get into the Fantastic Desires program. Meanwhile, Jon was busy trying to figure out more about the corporation legitimately. When was it founded, who founded it, where there headquarters are, even stock options. Things like that. At the end of the day, they would reconnoiter and compare notes.
"Can I help you, miss?" The receptionist cheerily asked. She looked like a normal Barbie doll, dressed in her finest gown, except she was about six feet tall. Karyn pulled her purse up and smiled back.
"I saw your commercial last night and was interested."
"I'll get you an agent right away."
"Please do," Karyn nodded.
"How are you, Miss Jonston?" The agent said, sitting down in her chair opposite Karyn. Like everyone else here, she was normal, but a little off kilter. She had antenna sticking out of her fire red hair, a pair of wings to match, and stripped stockings.
"I'm doing really good."
"That's great. Now, have you thought about what you would like to be?"
More than you know, Karyn thought, "I was thinking something like a goddess. Something with a power. Lots of power . . ."
