"... then who did?" said Jon. He picked up the stone and said, "I wish I knew if this stone or any other magic stones have something to do with Fantastic Desires."
"Did it tell you?" asked Karyn over the phone.
"Yeah, it told me. It is another stone, and this stone can't tell me any more because whoever has the other stone wished they'd be immune to magic unless they want to be affected."
"I don't know if there's much we can do now..."
"Yeah, but first I wish that me and Karyn can't be affected by magic unless we want to be affected."
"Sounds safe enough," said Karyn. "Wait... Jon, Mom's calling me."
Jon waited and could hear the sounds of screaming, and the name Sarah mentioned. When Karyn finally came back, she began to explain. "It's Sarah. She's vanished! Her mom's been calling up lots of moms and asking them if they saw her today."
"What did you tell her?"
"That I last saw Sarah on a Fantastic Desires commercial."
"Karyn, do you think they did something to her?"
"I don't know... if Fantastic Desires has a stone they don't need to kidnap her. They could just wish up a maid or a hooker or whatever they wanted, and then nobody would report any disappearing people. They could even just wish that it's normal for people to obey them."
"Hmm," said Jon. "I don't think they could. If they wished to be obeyed it would be limited by the range of the stone. Everyone outside would wonder why they just got a city full of slaves. As for the rest, maybe they're some cult that needs a free willed victim for their ritual, or maybe they're just evil and like to do things to real people...."
"But one thing I do know," said Karyn. "If it really is Fantastic Desires, we've got to stop them. I mean, sure, Sarah isn't that nice to us... but what's happening to her can be really bad. All the things they could do to her, that nobody deserves, not even Sarah."
"Yeah," replied Jon into the phone. "But what can we do?"
Meanwhile, Sarah was yelling at her captors. "I'm 17! I lied on that form and said I was 18! You've got to let me go, because I'm too young to sign a contract!"
"Sorry," said one of the men. "We did our research. You turned 18 last week. Your signature on that contract is valid...."
