"I feel so useless," Karyn said, sitting up against the storeroom wall (if it was a storeroom).
"Maybe I can at least use the stone to keep an eye on them. At least then we'll know what's happening down there."
"It's better than nothing," Karyn said.
So Jon made the wish and suddenly both of them knew all about what Hart was doing, as well as what Rachel, Ashley, Doug, Kevin, Chris, Wallace, and Janice were doing. They also knew all about the magic stones they had discovered. Jon and Karyn weren't able to help them, but they could at least keep track of their movements. At least until Jon came up with a plan to be a little more proactive.
"Come on," Rachel said, pulling Ashley out of the store, trying to sneak past the man with the gun. But they got spotted right away and nearly got their heads blown off. Fortunately he missed, but not by much. Not stopping for a second, they made a dash for the mall entrance.
The man reloaded his gun, as he walked after them. He seemed confident that he would catch them.
Doug quietly got up, making sure not to wake Kevin up, and walked into the forest, taking with him nothing more than a flashlight. He wanted to test out his stone a little more.
Chris got in his car, about to drive home. But changed his mind when he saw a plume of fire just down the road. A fire! This would be a great use of the stone, he thought. He could use rain to put it out. Or maybe a strong gust of wind.
"We have to call the fire department," Janice said.
"And tell them what? That this stone caused the fire?"
"Just don't tell them anything."
"Janice, they'll want to know how it got started," Wallace said.
His wife looked down the road. "There's someone coming."
Wallace looked and saw a car approaching them. It was slowing down.
When it stopped, a man got out. Something glowed in his hand and suddenly it began to rain. Hard.
Wallace and his wife ran to their car and got inside. "Did you see that?" Wallace asked. "Something glowed in his hand. Just like this," he said, showing her the yellow stone.
"You mean there's more than one?"
After the rain stopped, the fire was completely out. The man got back in his car and drove back the way he came.
"Maybe he knows what this thing is," Wallace said. He thought for a second. "I'm following him."
"I don't think that's wise. We don't know anything about him," Janice warned.
But Wallace had made up his mind.
