"So you can't choose what they become at all?"
"Nope... She said they would change with the situation, so unless I can force one on these situations, I can't do anything..." Jon answered Karyn.
They were slowly walking towards Jon's home, Jon holding on to his friend while trying to figure how to walk on heels. He had experimented a little while waiting for her, but no matter what he said or did, he couldn't get his shoes to change. He had given up after his attempt to run, hoping they would change to sneakers, only ended up with him face-planting in the corridor.
However, his shoes did change. Once Karyn arrived, the second they stepped outside, Jon felt his shoes shift under his feet, though the transformation wasn't as dramatic as the first one. The size of his heels stayed pretty much the same though they seemed to enlarge slightly, making it easier for him to balance on. In the end, he was left with some leather high-heeled booties. He would almost be happy with his new shoes if they weren't bright red, drawing the attention of everyone he saw.
"I never realized how far my home was from school..." Jon complained. They weren't even half-way there and his feet were already aching.
"It's only a kilometer away, it's not that far." stated Karyn. "But I understand it might feel longer with these shoes on..." She looked at his feet once again. She was trying her hardest not to stare, but it was hard to ignore. She had been shocked to see his shoes change before her eyes. She knew it would happen, and she had technically witnessed something bigger when she wished for her boobs and hair, but it was the first transformation she really saw. She had been forced not to look when she made that wish, so she only saw the result once the transformation was done. Seeing the process was something else, fascinating and a little scary at the same time.
"I should have taken the other option..." Regretted Jon. "I would have bought 2 or 3 centimeters heels and wouldn't struggle so much..."
"Then why did you take this option?" asked Karyn. "I would have brought you a pair of low heels and you wouldn't have any more problem."
"I know, I panicked when she said time was almost up. I thought about this choice at the time and ended up picking it."
"Well... I'll help you when I can, but you'll have to learn to walk in heels eventually."
"I know. I'll try to work on it this evening..." Jon said with a sigh. "That's not something ever thought I'd do."
They continued in silence for some time, Karyn thinking about how to help her friend and Jon simply trying to walk without falling. It was becoming a little easier as he walked with Karyn, but he was still far from being comfortable. He was also certain the way he walked was ridiculous, even if you ignored the fact he was a boy in flashy heels.
"Can you come to help me tomorrow morning too?" Jon finally asked. "I don't think I'll be able to go all the way to school alone, even if I trained all night."
"Sure." Answered Karyn. "I was planning to come anyway, but we might need to go earlier than usual."
"I know... I don't think I'll ever be able to walk fast in these heels..." Said Jon sadly. He was starting to realize how bad his situation was. He knew it would happen before, but having to deal with it made it feel more real.
"Don't think like that." Karyn tried to comfort him. "You'll get the hang of it. And it's only for a month, until you get the stone back!"
"I guess..." Said Jon, not really convinced. "But it's still a month..." He looked at Karyn. He knew she was trying to cheer him up and felt a little guilty. "Sorry. I'll try to stay positive." He gave his friend a little smile. "Lots of people are able to walk on heels, I don't see why I wouldn't be able too." He purposely avoided saying they were women, he wasn't ready to face what he would become yet.
Karyn smiled at him too, though her heart wasn't really into it. She was powerless to help Jon, and she felt like she failed even as moral support. However, her thought process was quickly interrupted as Jon's house finally came into view.
"Finally!" Jon exclaimed as they got to the doorway. "You can't imagine how much I want to get out of these shoes!" He took out his key and began opening the door. "You want to stay a little?" He asked, wanting to spend some time with his friend without needing to worry about Sarah or his changes.
"Sure!" She answered as she followed him inside, but she didn't get very far. Jon was standing in the doorway watching his feet. Karyn realized his shoes had changed once more, now being a pair of fluffy pink slippers. That was one of the girliest footwear she had ever seen. "Well... At least you're not wearing heels anymore."
