"That was really dumb!" Karyn said with a disapproving stare.
She and Jon were having lunch outside of the school, having purposely avoided cafeteria as to not bump into Sarah. Jon had tried talking to Karyn before, but couldn't find her until lunch break when he finally explained everything to her.
"I know! I regretted it the instant I said the wish, but it was too late..." He pleaded, ashamed of himself.
"Can't you reason with her? It might be hard but it could work. She's a bitch but she's not a sociopath."
"I don't think it would work... I specified in the wish it would change me a lot. And seeing her this morning, I don't think she even considered not changing me..."
"It can't hurt to try... right?" Karyn uncertainly proposed.
"I probably will, but I'm not going to go after her to do this. I'll try it when she finds me, but I'm not confident..." He paused a moment, but as Karyn said nothing, he continued. "I'll need your help too. I don't think I can go through the month alone."
"Well... It's not like I can do much... I can help you avoid Sarah but from what you told me, the first thing she did was try to create a way to communicate with you whenever she wants, so I won't be able to do anything if she succeeds."
"I know, but I'll need at least to be able to talk to you when a change happens... I don't think I can dodge her for a month."
"Of course, you can always come talk to me, I'll help you in any way I can." Karyn reassured him with a smile. "I'm not going to stop talking to you because you made a stupid wish."
Jon smiled weakly at her too. "Thank you. But I was thinking, if it's like a wish, you might not remember the change she makes."
Karyn took a moment to process it. She hadn't thought about that, but Sarah could completely change her relation with Jon if she didn't remember what was different. "I don't know... It seems logic she could change reality like the stone, but I don't know what to do..."
The mood, that wasn't very good to begin with, became even worse. They tried thinking of something, but nothing worked out. In the end, they decided to go back to school. They had considered not going but Jon's mother would probably kill him, then he would be in a lot of troubles just to gain a day.
However, once the school was in sight, so was Sarah, standing at the gate, waiting. The moment she saw him, she could see her expression change, now sporting a predatory grin.
