"I think I'll try this," Jon said, walking over to a gold bracelet and picking it up.

On the slip of paper resting beside it, there was a brief description of the object. It was the Armlet of Phasability. The instructions were as follows:

  1. Simply place the bracelet on your wrist or arm.

  2. As long as you wear the bracelet, you will be able to walk through all "man-made" objects, such as buildings, cars, etc. WARNING: You will not be able to walk through "natural" objects, such as trees, water, or the earth itself. So, be careful.

Jon lifted it up and put it on his wrist.

Almost immediately, he fell through the second level floor, the first level floor, and down into the basement. The fall was so traumatic that it knocked him unconscious. When he finally woke up, he saw that the sun had already gone down, casting the room in near darkness. He stood up and felt the bracelet on his arm. He pulled it off and suddenly felt immense pain coming from his feet. In the dim light, he looked down and saw that everything from his calves down were in the concrete floor of the basement. He was stuck. Literally.

He quickly put the bracelet back on and the pain subsided. Then he jumped up and took the bracelet off again. His still-throbbing feet then fell down onto the concrete surface. Apparently concrete was considered a man-made object.

He grabbed his head. It still hurt from the fall. He wondered what time it was. How long had he been down there?
