Jon sighed and lay on his bed. Its normal softness replaced by sheet frozen in time, not cushioning his weight at all. It felt like he was laying on a slab of marble. He squirmed a bit, trying to get comfortable. He didn't have much luck. He placed his hand on the stone. "I wish my bed was more comfortable." Nothing happened. Jon sighed again.

The rock still felt like its usual self. Slightly warm, almost powerful to the touch. It was a good feeling.

"You know," remarked Jon to his empty, silent room, "it's kind of nice to be able to PRACTICE wishes, without them coming true. For instance, I wish the next 30 minutes would pass in 30 seconds." Nothing happened. Jon checked the watch. 29 minutes 59 seconds to go. He sighed for the third time and started his wish practice in earnest.

Some of his wishes were clever, like the ability to speed and slow time while at school. An extra 20 minutes to think about that math test in exchange for fast forwarding through the history lectures of doom? SCORE!

Some of his wishes we're as bright. Wishing for his reflection to be a random hot chick that changed at midnight was a pretty dumb wish. (He had started with his favorite actress, then reworded when he realized he'd get bored of just one). Another dumb wish was for the ability to talk with fish. As the half hour ran by, he sat on his slab of a bed, fantasizing and plotting and occasionally trying out the words of his wish on the stone it self. He'd probably made about 50 wishes before he realized he could start time back up.

He clicked the watch.

The ambient sounds of his home returned. He smiled, free of the prison of his own design.

His eyes went wide in terror as the stone flashed, almost as quickly as a strobe light, granting all the wishes it had heard...
