Jon surveyed the room and all the magical artifacts, and spied a small ring sitting on his bedside table. He picked it up, along with its accompanying scroll, and began to examine the artifact. It looked almost like a mood ring. He looked at the parchment for an explanation of what it did. It said this:
"The magic mood ring is a tool for understanding others. The person wearing the ring will find their personality becoming more and more like any person they look at while wearing the ring. The longer they look at a person, the more their personality changes. The changes can only be reversed by a) Looking at another person (which will cause another change in personality) or b) Removing the ring. But be warned: The ring can only be removed while not looking at another person, and the powerful magic will compel the wearer to look at any person within several yards of the wearer. The ring can also be used with photographs, although the effects will be less intense."
Jon thought for a moment as to how he could use this to his advantage. He'd had a crush on Nicole Baxter for some time. She was only interested in the jocks, though. Now, if he put on the ring while looking at a picture of one of the athletes at school, he'd get all the knowledge he needed to win over Nicole.
Nobody was home at the moment, so Jon carefully slid the ring onto his finger and was about to head to his room to grab his yearbook. Of course, as is usual in these types of stories, the front door opened and somebody walked into the house, just as Jon felt compelled to look at them, whoever they were...
