"Well, the Queen is, or was, me." The two superheroes looked at Sarah McMillian, uncomprehending.
"I got these powers, y'know, and I wanted to use 'em. Get stuff I wanted." She shrugged, "I was dumb, and there was no one who could stop me." Sarah looked to Miss Amazing, "Not even you, 'cause you never actually captured me."
"But one day about a month ago, I woke up and there was this creepy little girl at the foot of my bed. Black hair, bone white skin, lifeless eyes. She said," Sarah picked her fingernails, "She said she wanted to play a game. I didn't think I had much of a choice."
"She was a kid," Amazing Boy said, sneering. "You couldn't just punt her out of your room?"
"She wasn't a kid." Sarah shook her head, "She looked like one, but I felt her power. It was dark. Violent. I think she was disguising herself."
Miss Amazing waved her hand, "This still doesn't explain how she" the superheroine pointed to the Queen, "is you."
"The games she made me play were like normal games, except they were twisted. We played like six of 'em, then I had enough. I tried to stop her; tried to knock her out. She just laughed at me. Then she split me in two. All my power and such went to her," she indicated to the unconscious Queen, "It was like I was incomplete."
Miss Amazing whispered in her partner's ear, "I don't like this. The Queen mentioned that she was a pawn in someone else's game." She reached for the Wishing Stone.
"That's not going to help you. She made herself immune to it, I think."
Miss Amazing knelt down to Sarah, "What's not going to help me?"
"The wishing stone. She wants it, and she'll kill for it."
"Listen up, Sarah. I won't do anything to you now, but if you betray me, or if you dawn this mask again, or commit any evildoing, I will come down on you so hard you'll think you were born in prison. Understand?"
Sarah nodded.
"Amazing Boy, let's go." The superheroine lifted up the Queen's body. As the heroes walked away, Miss Amazing whispered, "I wish Sarah forgot about the stone." It flashed. She wondered if what Sarah said about the girl was true. It wouldn't hurt to find out . . .
Across town, Zoe looked through her folder filled with the exploits of Miss Amazing. She was looking for . . . "Ahhhh. That one will do nicely." She said, and then sat before her power center once more, and she reached out to another of Miss Amazing's nemesis . . .
