But now was not the time for street clothes, Jonnie realized quickly. There were a hundred people, including police, fire fighters, paramedics, and most importantly, TV crews, around the scene. Jonnie had barely taken two steps before a male rpeorter had run in front of her and stuck a microphone in the superheroines face. Jonnie kinda thought his was cute.
"Miss, who exactly are you? How did you do all that?"
"Well, uh, for reasons of, uh, saftey, I can't tell my secret identity . . ."
"Don't be silly, Jonnie," Sarah McMillian apparently saw her great claim to fame, "This is Jonnie Phillips, and she's been my best friend since elementry school. She was always a little wierd, but . . . "
God, even I didn't think Sarah was this dumb. Jonnie thought. She quickly grabbed the stone and wished under her breath, "I wish only Karyn and I knew that Jonnie Phillips was a superhero." Jonnie cursed herself as soon as she said that. Why didn't she think of that earlier?
What amazed her, though, was that Sarah kept talking about Jonnie's exploits and feilding questions. She described, in detail, how she and Jonnie, whom she was now calling Miss Amazing, met. She easily tackled the assertion by one reporter that superheroes weren't real. _Sarah's actually a help now," Jonnie thought.
"Miss Amazing, you seem a little young to be in the Superhero business. Do you worry that you could inadvertendly get in the way, instead of helping?" For the first time Jonnie realized that, superhero or not, she was still a high school student.
Sarah began to answer, but Jonnie stepped forward, "I'll answer this last question before leaving everything else to my unofficial spokesperson. Am I a little young and inexperienced? Yes. But, I won't be a rouge agent. I'll be working hand in hand, probably even taking orders, from local police and fire departments. When I'm needed, I'll be here. You never have to worry about that."
Jonnie willed herself into her Miss Amazing costume and used her superspeed to run out of the crowd. But she didn't head home, instead, she made her way to Karyn's house. Jonnie needed to sort the situation out, and two heads were better than one. . .
