There was a flash, and suddenly, Karen was stood in front of them, looking very surprised. She looked up.
"Pete!" she exclaimed and ran to hug him. "How've you been? It's been ages!"
"Very well, Karyn. And you...?" he asked.
"Okay, Pete. Hey, how did I get here?"
Pete held up the rock. "Jon told me about it"
Karyn looked at Jon. "The less people know about this the better!"
Jon looked guilty. "I know, but I had to tell Pete"
A thought was forming in Pete's mind. He had always liked Karyn and Jon, but in recent years he had noticed certain thoughts in his head, and he realised that he was missing Karyn more than Jon. He realized that in his time away, Karyn and Jon had probably grown closely together. They may even be dating, but he wasn't about to ask. Could he use the stone to make Karyn love him? And what would he do to keep Jon out of the way?
Pete made a decision. He held up the rock. "I wish..."
