Jon looked at the lamp. It was after school and Jon was in his room. He wasn't sure what to do; wasn't sure what to say. Karyn was probably scared stupid. Or worse, she was furious at him.
Slowly, Jon put his hand on the lamp, and then rubbed the vessel a time or two. It began to rattle. Jon heard a sound almost like a vacuum cleaner, though much quieter. Suddenly glittering brown dust carried out of the lamp's nozzle. It hung in the air for a moment, and then quickly began to take on Karyn's shape. Only a second or two later, Karyn was standing in his room, dressed much more than Jon had thought.
She looked a little dazed and out of it. Her eyes weren't focusing on anything in particular. Then she began to look around the room, but it was like she was seeing it for the first time.
"Kar, are you all right?"
"Kar? My name is Karyseth the Genie." Karyn looked toward Jon, but never at him, "You may wish upon me three wishes, Master."
This wasn't supposed to happen. Karyn wasn't supposed to become another person entirely. She was supposed to be herself, only as a Genie. Then it hit Jon.
"Nice try, Karyn." A radiant smile spread across his best friend's face.
"You are smarter than I had anticipated, Master." Karyn leaned against a wall, "Still, you've got three wishes. Might as well use 'em." She began to inspect her finger nails.
"Uh, hello, I've got infinite wishes." Jon held the stone up. Karyn snorted,
"You are such a party pooper. What is the point of being a Genie if you won't wish on me?"
"You're putting me on again, aren't you?"
"Actually, no. Jon, if and when we use that stone to become something else, I want to experience that something else. I really, legitimately want to know what being a Genie is all about. What it feels like to have this massive power, and yet be powerless. What it's like to live in a lamp. What granting a wish really feels like. We can get around to setting me free later. So make your wish, Master. I promise I won't screw it up. . ."
