Bernie was feeling quite happier after that conversation with...his mother. Though maybe the feelings were very complicated, given she was his step mother and a cat girl the fact was that his father re-married and this was the situation. He hated himself for feeling the way he did, but at the same time he was glad that his new mother didn't hate him for.. being such a dick at times.
He balled up a sheet of paper throwing it into the air a few times.
"Big brother?!" A voice suddenly called out from under his bed.
"Ah!" Bernie gasped in shock. "Lucy? Where- how long have you been under there?"
Lucy crawled out from under the small space on all fours, hunching up her legs and stretching her tail. "I dunno, I fell asleep," she giggled- then stopped. Her ears flattened just a bit as she looked to Bernie with a worried look. "Are you sad cause I hugged you in school?" she asked confused. "I know I'm not supposed to rub your leg, I can't help it sometimes."
Bernie sat on the side of his bed, quickly getting up. He didn't really mind his sister being here, when it should be a sanctum. Truth be told, he would have had trouble keeping her out- especially if she started scratching at the carpet to get inside. Bernie didn't really get it, cat-girls did their own thing and he was content to do his own thing too. The trouble was, the cat-girl was his little sister now and it was difficult. He didn't really want to fight with her.
"I- no I'm not upset about that," he said quickly patting her on the head. "I just feel messed up about some stuff, you wouldn't get it."
The cat girl stared at him with big wide eyes. "Can't I do anything?"
"No I I think I'm fine now." He did feel fine. "It's just..." he looked away a bit. "Do you think you can keep a secret?" he asked her.
"Of course!" She nodded.
"Sometimes I do envy you cat-girls," he admitted. "It took ages for me to catch that mouse, heh. Not the mouse eating part- I don't like that but you're a lot quicker, faster and well I always thought that was cool." He said wistfully. "Maybe I've been a bit jealous.. I'm sorry."
"Hehe. You wanna be a cat girl?!" She giggled.
"What? No-"
"Oh a big cat-sister is all I ever wanted!" Lucy suddenly declared giving the boy a hug- very awkwardly. "Okay, so from now on behind closed doors you're gonna be my big sister cat-girl." She nodded. "First of all I gotta teach you to catch mice yourself. Then I can teach you how to purr right, then I can tell our mother you'll be a cat-girl from now on-"
"Whoa! No No!" Bernie quickly put his sister down when she jumped into his arms like she was made of liquid.. "Look- I'm jealous of how quick and fast you are, I don't want to be a cat girl. Maybe a cat-boy but-"
"No such thing as cat-boys though," the little cat girl declared with a bop of her head to her big brother.
"Ow."
"So if you want to be a cat, you gotta be a girl. We'll have so much fun big sister!" she fluffed her tail running it round his leg, with the most bizarre and dare he think- 'alien' gaze.
" you're putting me on arn't you." Bernie said with a laugh.
"Maaaaaybe." Lucky giggled licking her big brother's cheek. "Though I think it would be nice too."
'seems humour does run in this family,' Bernie thought rolling his eyes. Heh, cat-girls were really strange beings. Even now he wasn't entirely sure if she was being humorous or if behind those eyes, the little cat-girl was seeing something else something other then the ordinary bland human that he was in reality. She saw her brother and.. to a cat-girl's mind, perhaps some part of them did struggle with the idea that family was 'not' a cat
Bernie offered his hand to his sister, which she then nuzzled a sideways glanced, blinking her eyes slowly. In return, Bernie brushed his hair to her cheek, gently the formation of that hand given shape by her whiskers directly in Lucy's mind. She accepted that and began to purr...
Making up with his step-siebling like this felt.. natural.
