Tock.. tick.. tock tick tock
Two boys, outside the headmaster's office. It was a relatively new experience for Ken, who didn't really tend to get into 'that much' trouble. Bernie had been a bit of a bad influence of late and he was getting really worried. "How long is this gonna take!"
"They are just tryin' to make us sweat, I've been through this a few times." Shrugged Bernie.
"It was just a harmless prank though!"
"Hehe.. yeah, it was totally worth it." Bernie chuckled. "Did you see that cat girl eat the mouse? Hey how about next time, we see how they react with laser pens. I used to have a pet cat that went insane when we used that on it."
"I dunno.. we probably shouldn't distract cat-girls. They got claws."
For some reason Bernie took a double take at that. " yeah I know." he then gestured to his arm, which had two distinct cross marks on it. " I know."
"Bernie.. Ken..." The door opened as the headmaster came out of his office. Miss Sanders was in there too, having discussed the situation. "Come in.."
Bernie walked in, with Ken in tow. There was a slightly sheepish look between them. They knew that they had done wrong but
"So, why did you bring a mouse into school?" Asked the head master.
Ken shrugged, glancing a bit to Bernie. "W-Well- it was his idea-"
"Hey it was your idea too!" Bernie said annoyed that Ken would try to pin it all on him. "I mean- yeah I had the idea but Ken found the mouse."
"I found it, you were the one who caught it."
"Then I thought we should take it back-
"Then you said-
"But you said-"
The headmaster quickly put his hand on his desk making a slight noise. "Enough.." he groaned. "I think you are both equally to blame for it."
Bernie frowned in response. There was a quiet that lasted just too long and he had to fill it with.. something. "Well it was funny..."
Ken suddenly giggled at that as did Bernie though the two adults in the room didn't smile one bit. Bernie just shrugged again with annoyance. They quickly stopped laughing and the silence returned.
"I just want to know 'why' you did it," said the headmaster. "Miss Sanders was in quite a state. She's not quite fond of mice."
Bernie sighed. "Okay look it was me, okay? My idea completely. Ken found the mouse but I caught it and had the idea about it. I just thought it would be funny."
Ken glanced up. Well.. that was all true. "I- um- thing is I thought it was funny too I did go along with it..." he lamented it a bit. Bernie was still his friend, he didn't want him to take all the blame. Maybe he should have said something to him but yeah, it was funny
"Hmm..." The headmaster looked at each of their records. "Ken, your grades have been slipping of late. I would like you to reflect on that. Before distracting others, perhaps consider that you are getting distracted yourself..."
Bernie groaned. Was he going to be blamed for Ken's poorer grades too? It wasn't his fault he found the class boring, especially the parts on 'feline studies'.
"Bernie, I would like to schedule a parent teacher meeting here is the letter, I would be grateful if you could pass this on to your parents."
"My dad's away on another business trip."
"Your mother then."
"What.. her? Are you kiddin'"
"Your mother..." repeated the headmaster.
Bernie groaned again. "Yeah fine..." he took the letter.
"You are both dismissed."
"That went pretty well in the end," said Ken as he walked with Bernie to their lockers.
"yeah, 'cept now the teacher wants to talk to my mother. She ain't even my real ma!"
Ken winced at that. "Oh is that why your little sister is um-"
"Hi big brother!" Lucy Drullers hugged Bernie. She was a very cute ginger haired cat with a large set of ears. The yellow and orange of her fur was very distinct, especially the way it framed around her eyes, with darker fur giving her her a tigress like look- albeit as a simple cub of only seven years old.
"Get of me!" He cried out. "Look, we're not siblings okay? Just do your thing and I'll do mine."
Lucy didn't seem phased at all, like she was used to it. "I'm gonna tell you said that."
Ken looked between them. "So- why is it you um- you got a cat-girl sister?"
"Long story short, My dad re-married and he re-married a cat-girl. So this is.. Lucy."
"Pleased to meet ya!" She said balancing on one foot like a ballerina, her long tail stretching out. "-Oh and Bernie's my big brother! Though he doesn't act like one, I still got to act like his little sister!"
Bernie waved her away. "Look, why don't you just go mark some territory or something. I got stuff to do."
Lucy's ears flattened a bit. ".. okay.." she slowly slinked away.
Bernie folded his arms glad for her to be gone. "Urgh! You see what I got to deal with there?"
Ken wasn't sure he wanted to get involved in that. "Well- you don't have to be so mean to her. She seems nice-"
"Who do you think did this to me!" He said showing the scars on his arm. "What do you think it's like living with a cat-girl that's trying to act like she's your sister huh?"
" I wouldn't know. I'm an only child. I probably wouldn't mind it though." Ken thought about what that could be like.
"We fight and..." Bernie frowned a bit. "Look- I- don't want to admit this.. I wouldn't admit this to anyone so you got to be cool with me. Can you promise me you'll keep this to yourself?" Bernie looked so worried. "When two cat-girls fight.. it's an even match. When a cat-girl fights a human though.. even if' she's smaller..."
"Oh..." Ken gasped. "Your little sister can beat you up!"
"Shut up!" Bernie pushed Ken at that remark. "She doesn't fight fair."
Ken brushed his shirt a bit from the push. "Hey I'll be cool calm down!" Bernie let go still.. annoyed. Ken felt a bit bad too, he guessed having something like that happen must have really hit Bernie hard. "Maybe you could.. beat her at video games?" Ken thought.
" I tried. She's got higher reflexes then me." Bernie fumed.
"Sports?"
"she's faster."
"Chess?"
".. I ain't that smart." Bernie sighed. "I really don't want anything to do with her. She's supposed to be my little sister, but she's better then me at.. everything. My dad treats her like this princess when he's around, my 'new mother' just focuses everything on her. Each and every day is about what -she- does. I don't want to deal with that crap. Maybe if she were human I'd have got on with her better.. I was actually looking forward to having a little sister- till the whole reality of it sunk in..."
"Man that is tough," Ken admitted. "Makes me almost glad to be an only child."
"Heh.. well, I'll leave this letter to 'cat-ma' "
