[Note: Her name is Jamie. Besides, I've only ever heard of Jaime as a guy's name.]
Jamie grinned, "I wish Karyn would let us do whatever we're going to do to her with the stone, until we're finished." She hesitated, then said "Wait a minute! Jon... you don't know me?"
"Nope."
"But I wished you into existence. You didn't hear the wish. So you should remember it being normal for you and me to both exist. You should know who I am. Oh, never mind. I wish we'd know why Jon doesn't remember me."
The voice that the stone often had to do when explaining things intoned, "Jon and you count as the same person for purposes of hearing the wish. If one of you hears the wish, memories won't change for either one." Well, that was solved.
"Now, what should we do?" asked Jamie.
"Don't I get a say in this?" asked Karyn.
"No," replied both Jamie and Jon.
"What did I do?"
"You turned me into a girl, so I wouldn't exist as I was!" said Jon.
"And now that I'm a girl," said Jamie, "you were going to turn me back, so I wouldn't exist either!"
"But you're right there," replied Karyn. "You're a girl and a guy and you both exist. What did I do wrong then?"
"You, uhh..." said Jon. "Well, Karyn, you were still planning to do it but I admit you didn't really do anything much that wasn't fixed. What else did she do, Jamie?"
"She turned Sarah McMillan into a clown. She'll be stuck like that for the rest of her life."
"No she won't!" said Karyn. "I turned Jon into a dog and then into a human. It proves that wishes can be reversed, no matter what your grandfather said. So I'll just turn Sarah back."
"Prove it," said Jamie.
"You can prove it for yourself," replied Karyn. "Wish that my hair was brown. You just need to remember that the word 'had' from my hair wish can mean past tense; once you think about that, then you can make any wish you want in the present. Try it yourself."
"I wish Karyn's hair was brown," said Jamie... and it turned back to its previous shade, though it stayed long and straight. "Hmm... I wish Sarah was the way she was before becoming a clown."
"There you go," said Karyn. "Everything I did is fixed. You don't need to do anything to me."
"You know I wouldn't really hurt you," said Jon.
"Nor me," said Jamie.
"But," continued Jon, "that doesn't mean we won't do a little something to you anyway. Jamie, what can we do as a mild punishment that won't really harm Karyn?"
