Looking down at herself, Lauren soaked in the situation. Her hands running over the thicker fabric of her new dark blue blouse. Leaning over she looked at her black skirt and kicked out her foot that was encased in a black heel. Everything formed fitted to her body. Thinking “Well If I am the teacher now at least I look the part.” Smoothing out the blouse she once would have hated wearing.
As new students poured into the class room, Lauren tried to wrap her head around what was happening. Some students turned and smiled. Some avoiding eye contact as they searched for their seats. The feeling gave Lauren a feeling of empowerment, an unknown authority that she had not had before.
“Morning Ms Rodriguez” Anna Paulson stated as she passed
“Uhhh Morning dear.” Lauren replied.
The last student took the empty seat and they were all on their phones or quietly talking to each other. Lauren instinctively marched in the center of the room stating “Ok everyone phones away and books out” watching everyone follow her orders. Trying to see what she should do next, growing a little nervous. “What chapter did we leave off on Susan?” Lauren asked hoping one of her old classmate would know and Susan was the teachers pet.
Smiling Susan answered “Chapter 3 Ms Rodriguez”
“Alright then Susan could you please start reading the first section and then we will go down the rows until we finish, then we’ll all go over the review and write a reflection paper at the end.” Lauren instructed
The class went on smoother then Lauren could have ever hoped for. As the students read she made her way to her new desk. Sitting down she crossed her legs and kicked her heel on and off. Thinking to herself “This isn’t that bad, I don’t know why Lonna would complain about this.” Then suddenly she realized one thing she did lose “...Jake!” Bitting her lip “Lonna better not mess things up with my boyfriend.” Realizing that she should be in class with him now.
“Ms Rodriguez?” A student asked snapping Lauren out of her deep thought.
“What...I mean yes” Lauren looked around trying to find the student that spoke up.
“Where should we put our papers when we’re done?” Dan asked
Gesturing towards the corner of her desk Lauren stated “right here is fine.”
The rest of the class quietly finished their papers and as the bell rang, Lauren watched them file out one by one. Wondering “Ok I can do this I think, how is Lonna doing.”
