Watching three people who were out of earshot talking got boring very quickly, it seemed. Jon scanned the street again; most everyone on the block was coming out of their houses to see what the commotion was. "Dinner time!" His mom's voice rang out through the house. She could make it carry for miles. "You too, Jon!"
He sighed, getting up from the bed, taking a couple of experimental steps in the heels. It wasn't as difficult as he'd thought it would be, but he couldn't run. "Why can't we just eat whenever like a normal family?" Jon muttered in his breathy voice, walking very slowly down the stairs, determined to arrive last. He was greeted by silence from his brother and sister, and a wolf whistle from his dad, as he walked into the kitchen and sat down.
"Mark!" Mom screeched, and he looked down at his plate, a sheepish grin on his face.
"Sorry, honey, couldn't help it." Dad muttered, looking up at Jon. "So you're really Jon? What happened?"
He stayed silent, staring dutifully at his food as Mikey and Zoe started simultaneously bombarding their mom with questions. "Quiet, both of you!" She yelled over them, silencing them. "Your brother has... something special. He can switch people around, and he decided to switch himself around with one of the women in my Cosmo. He wants to stay that way for now, don't you, honey?"
Jon just nodded. Didn't know Mom could lie so easily... has she lied to me? Mikey had begun to tease him for just a moment before Mom yelled at him, and Zoe looked at him, grinning. "Switch one of us."
"Huh?" His voice was going to take some serious getting used to.
"Switch something about us. Whoever and whoever." Jon nodded, a grin spreading across his face mirroring Zoe's, and with a simple thought...
