ARD Jon slowly and clearly read from the note."What if the world matched the following description. Earlier today I was gifted two million dollars by a generous stranger. The money is not stolen or illegally gained and all taxes on it have been paid. It is contained in two briefcases. I have told nobody about the money and noone seen me bring it into the house. I am feeling in a generous mood myself and I want to give half the money to another alternate version of myself. I am currently in my bedroom, awaiting the arrival of another version of myself."
ARD Jon activated the ARD. Reality shimmered around him and he found himself alone in his bedroom.
Looking at the bed he saw two large metal briefcases on it. Hands shaking he opened one of the cases. The lid sprung open and inside was a lot of money arranged in neat bundles.
Jon had no idea what a million dollars looked like in cash but it was still more money than he had seen in his life. Stunned, he stared at the open case for a while. When reality set in he closed the lid again.
He noticed a scratch on the back of his hand that wasn't there earlier. He then looked at the rest of himself and noticed he was wearing totally different clothes.
"Why have my clothes changed?" he asked out loud. It was then he remembered what happened if a Jon existed at the ARD's destination. "Of course I'm in the other Jon's body! Cool!"
Jon grabbed the case he had opened. He hoped the other Jon wouldn't be weirded out by the case just disappearing.
Using his free hand he activated the 'return' button of the ARD on his wrist.
Reality shimmered again and he found himself facing DTH Jon and Karyn.
"I'm rich!" he shouted totally elated. He lifted his hand to show off the case but his hand was now empty. "Wait, what? It was in my hand. It was in my hand. A million dollars! I can't bring stuff back? No!"
ARD Jon went through the full range of emotions in a few seconds. He look ready to burst into tears when Karyn reached out to him and held his arm.
"It's alright, Jon." she told him.
"No it's not. I had a million dollars, I saw it. It's gone, it's stuck in that reality. I can't bring stuff back."
She turned to DTH Jon. "Tell him."
DTH Jon spoke. "I suspected as much, so I scanned the destination."
He indicated with his finger the red line on the screen of the DTH.
ARD Jon thought for a moment. "So that means we can go there and bring the money back."
"I can go get it, yes." DTH Jon informed him
ARD Jon eyed him suspiciously. "I'm coming too. I keep losing stuff today and I'm not sure I trust you yet."
"Well, I don't know..."
Karyn interupted. "It's OK Jon, I'll wait here."
DTH Jon put his hand out and ARD Jon grabbed it. DTH Jon activated the DTH and they both vanished leaving Karyn in the room alone.
