"Darts," said Tom McMillan. "If you win, I'll buy you some new clothes. If I win, then you and I come back to my cabin and...."
"I don't think so," said Jon.
"Damn bitchy girls," muttered Joe, "thinking they're men because they look like men."
"I heard that," said Jon.
"What?" said Joe. "I didn't say anything."
Then Jon figured it out. Karyn's last wish was still operating. Joe must have transformed, and reality changed so he no longer said what Jon just heard. "Tom," he asked, "you're saying you think I'm a girl who looks like a guy?"
"I overheard you talkin' about it. So you have to be."
"And you like girls like that?"
"We don't get that many unattached girls out here. Besides, it don't matter what a girl looks like, if she can start a family"
"What about your friend Joe over there?" asked Jon. "For all I know he could be a girl in disguise. If I could be one, why can't he?"
"I've known Joe since I came to this town. He's a man."
"Really? Go ahead, ask him to prove it."
"Well, in fact..." said Joe.
"In fact what?" asked Jon.
"In fact if Tom wanted someone like me as his wife...."
"Stop the joking," said Tom. "You're a guy! You couldn't fool me like that."
Joe whispered something in Tom's ear, and they started arguing. Meanwhile Jon and Karyn got up and left for the door....
Karyn giggled. "I bet they'll kiss and make up later. Let's get away from there... there's got to be a lot to see around here other than the saloon. Unless you want to go to another time again."
