"You what?" yelled Karyn. "You don't really like being that way, you just think you do. We need to figure out a way to reverse it."
"Why?"
"Because, uhh, because you saw how girls are treated around here."
"But they won't notice unless I tell them," said Jon. "I may be a girl, but I still look like a guy."
"Because your mom would get upset if you came home like that? Because everyone at school would think it strange?"
Jon replied, "I can use the stone so they're all okay with it."
"How about this--because there isn't any such thing as a girl that looks that much like a guy?"
"Sure there is," said Jon. "You wished for it, right? And maybe those people you changed will have female descendants that also look like guys. There could be a lot of them at school."
"I give up," said Karyn.
At about this point a poorly shaven man in a cowboy hat, playing cards with another man with a beard and another cowboy hat yelled to Jon "Are you a girl in disguise?"
"That's ridiculous," said Jon. "What makes you think that?"
"The part where you said you are? You're talking pretty loud. You know, I've never known a girl who looks like you before. I'd like to get to know you better... tell you what, why don't we play a little game? Just me--Tom McMillan--and my friend Joe, and you two girls."
"Even supposing I am a girl," said Jon. "What is this game? And what do we get if we win, and what do you get if you win?"
